USAC China Program students can choose between two academic tracks. You can enroll in the 9-12 credit intensive Chinese language tracks and take one or two elective area studies courses, or you can choose to take a single four credit course in elementary Chinese and up to four area studies courses, selecting from Chinese history, literature in translation, government and politics, economics, history, art, Chinese calligraphy, Sichuan cuisine, culture and society, Tai Chi and anthropology, all taught in English. China is an enormously excitin country, and the transformation of its social, political and economic dimensions has brought a new openness and interest in foreigners. USAC classes are held at Sichuan University in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, one of the most scenic areas in all of China. Included in the program are field trips to regional areas of interest.
The Chinese Studies Program offers intensive language study - up to two years of university language requirements may be met in one semester. The first few days of the fall term are spent viewing the important historical, artistic, economic and governmental sites of Beijing. Similarly, spring semester students may also opt to visit the important commercial cities of Hong Kong and Kowloon.
Chengdu is a great place to live and the people are welcoming and friendly. It's a city where past meets present. High rises and fashionable shops give the city a modern feel, while street markets and traditional teahouses add a taste from the past.
