The Madrid program offers intensive language study - up to two years of university language requirements may be met in one semester. Additional courses in economics, anthropology, political science, teacher education, art history, cuisine and folkdance are taught in English or Spanish. Program organized field trips complement the academic portion of the program. USAC is located at one of the Madrid campuses of the UNED Spanish University. While enrolled, USAC students enjoy the privileges accorded local students at the university such as activities, student clubs and organizations.
The summer Madrid program offers two four-week sessions. You may opt to participate in one or both of the sessions, making this program ideal for those unable to participate in semester or yearlong programs. There are two options for combining courses from the following subject areas: Intensive Spanish language and Art History studies.
A city of 4 million inhabitants, Madrid is one of the liveliest capital cities of Europe. Madrid is a melting pot for all regions of Spain, and, more recently, for other cultures, yet it has maintained its own well-defined character. The city offers a wide variety of entertainment for people of all ages and cultural interests, as well as a wide variety of sports. Madrid has a modern infrastructure, but has successfully preserved the look and feel of many of its historic neighborhoods and streets. The result is in a cohesive blend of old and new: cobblestone streets and monumental architecture, parks, and plazas, alongside modern architecture and public art. Its location at the center of Spain makes it a good starting point for any trip to other cities in Spain, such as Cordoba, Sevilla, Barcelona or Valencia. Morocco is also within easy reach, located just across the Strait of Gibraltar.
