  • Highlights

The mission of this system is to develop human resources, to discover and disseminate knowledge, to extend knowledge and its application beyond the boundaries of its campuses, and to serve and stimulate society by developing in students heightened intellectual, cultural, and humane sensitivities; scientific, professional, and technological expertise; and a sense of purpose. Inherent in this mission are methods of instruction, research, extended education, and public service designed to educate people and improve the human condition. Basic to every purpose of the system is the search for truth.

  • University Attributes

As chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I'm proud to tell you of our many accomplishments: 23,000 students at our 11 schools and colleges, an Outreach program that serves 47,000 people a year, 146 degree programs, research standing in the top 102 public universities in the nation and NCAA Division I champion teams (our women's Panther basketball team made it to the NCAA Tournament this year!).

But those numbers don't paint a complete picture. In a word, UWM is connected. We're connected to our community through hundreds of learning and research partnerships to the people of our region. Our campus-wide initiative, The Milwaukee Idea, is enriching-and being enriched by-the people of southeastern Wisconsin.

We are also connected to the world. Almost 1,000 students from 87 different countries study with us at UWM, and in return, we have 24 different study-abroad and internship programs that help students study around the globe. We're Wisconsin's gateway campus to the world.
