I graduated from the University of Granada with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. I wanted to continue my studies and specialize in issues related to Eastern Europe in general and the Baltic Region in particular. I first came to the University of Tartu as exchange student, and then came back for my Master's degree. Why the University of Tartu and the Baltic Studies program? I wanted to continue my studies and specialise in issues related to Eastern Europe. I was choosing between St Petersburg, Kiev and Tartu Universities, and finally chose Tartu because Estonia presented a great opportunity to see a country in a transitional stage, and it is in the heart of the Baltic Region. The best about this program is that it gives very concrete knowledge about the region, government, business issues, etc. In Spain there are not very many people with professional knowledge of the Baltic region, and I am sure that after I have completed my degree at the University of Tartu and it will give me better job opportunities at different companies and organisations working with the Baltic Region. How has the University of Tartu helped you to settle in at the beginning of your studies? The University has helped a lot while I was settling in. There was an Orientation Course at the beginning of the studies which was very useful and helpful. Among others it covered simple things about daily life and practical issues, but it was really necessary. I also received the information about all the study options I had at the University. What are your experiences outside of the classroom? Tartu is a university town, as well as Granada, and the social life is quite similar. Just like at home, I have been able to satisfy all my cultural interests here in Tartu. It is a vibrant city and offers a variety of things. At the same time the town is not too big and there is easy access to everything! I definitely prefer Tartu over Tallinn, Estonia's capital because of that. Would you recommend the University of Tartu and Baltic Studies program to others? Yes, of course! I would definitely recommend the course to people who are interested in working for companies and institutions that do business or cooperate with the Baltics. This program is a great way to learn about and experience the Baltic Region's culture, economic and social life.
