    This programme focuses on the current political, socio-economic and cultural changes in the region, the connection between Russian and European history, theories and practices of democratic and market- oriented transformations in Russia and Eastern Europe.

    Autumn semester (27 ECTS):
    - Historical Dynamics in European-Russian Relations
    - History of the Russian Empire before the 20th Century
    - Political Transition in Central and Eastern Europe
    - Russian Culture and Religion

    Spring semester (24 ECTS):
    - Contemporary Issues in EU-Russian Relations
    - Soviet Experience and Post-Soviet Transformation in Russia
    - Russian Foreign Policy
    - International Law and Human Rights in Russia

  • Highlights

    Founded in 1632, the University of Tartu has almost 18 000 students and is famous for research-based education and lively student traditions. Estonia offers a unique perspective on the successful transition to democracy and recent accession to the EU. Tartu is Estonia's second largest city, with 100 000 people, and is located 2.5 hours from the airport and sea port of Tallinn, with connections to major cities in Europe and Russia. English is spoken widely here, and students making one fifth of the population. It is a true University town.

    For nearly four centuries, since University of Tartu was founded, it has been an international hub of academic exchange. This is increasingly the case in today's global context. Today, the University of Tartu boasts an extensive network of international academic cooperation. Thousands of students come to study at Tartu through various academic exchange programs. Likewise, our students study abroad either individually or as part of an exchange process between universities. Numerous overseas scholars teaching and carrying out research at the Tartu give you the feeling of belonging to the global academic community.

  • Program Fees Include:

    The tuition fee for one semester is 25 000 EEK (1 600 EUR). The tuition for entire study year is 45 000 EEK (2 880EUR).

    The tuition fee covers course participation and study materials. Students are responsible for their costs of travel, health insurance, residency permits, living expenses as well as study trips.

    In addition to the tuition fees students can pay a one-time semester package fee 2045 EUR/semester, which will cover transfer from and to Tallinn Airport, semester accommodation in a twin room at the student dormitory, with utilities, linens and pillows, orientation upon arrival, welcome package and reception, on-going support services and counseling by the International Student Service, tutor/student assistant for help with everyday issues like settling in the dorm, registering for classes, getting medical help, etc., transcript issued by the University of Tartu (provided that students have fulfilled the course requirements), assistance in obtaining a residence permit (required for all stays over 90 days).
