The curriculum contains courses focusing on commonly used tools in bioinformatics and analysis of large-scale molecular biological and biomedicine, as well as research and development in bioinformatics. There is a computer science part of the programme, where you will concentrate on courses in Perl programming and statistical analyses in R. You will also carry out a master's dissertation project in the field of bioinformatics. During your studies, lectures will be mixed with computer laboratory work. You will learn how to use various computerized tools for compiling and analyzing data from research projects and biological experiments, and to use various methods for analysis, for example sequence analysis, biomarker identification and gene expression analysis. The language of tuition is English.
Students who successfully complete all courses are awarded the degree Master's degree (one year) with specialization in bioinformatics.

The master's programme in bioinformatics at the University of Skovde has a focus on analysis of large-scale molecular biological and biomedicine data using bioinformatical and statistical tools as well as on development of tools and algorithms for the analysis of such data. Here, you will learn how to write scripts in the programming language Perl, to do statistical analyses in R, as well as handling commonly used bioinformatical tools for the analysis of biological data. This will provide you with a broad specialist competence in bioinformatics, and you will also develop your own individual ability to solve problems, to plan and carry out analyses, and to collect, process and critically judge results. There is also a strong connection to related subjects during the education, such as biomedicine, molecular biology and systems biology, since we have a close cooperation with the master's programmes in these subjects at the University.
