  • Description

    My Melbourne | My World.

Study Abroad at the University of Melbourne and discover the real Australia. You'll be integrated with local students in your lectures and tutorials, extracurricular activities, outings and field trips. The Study Abroad program allows students to live in one of the world's most livable cities and study at a dynamic, historic campus close to the centre of town. Students are invited to enroll in classes in 10 different faculties. Many choose to take a combination of classes from their major area combined with new fields unavailable at home, such as Australian Studies, indigenous histories, cultural studies, Asian financial markets, trans-cultural mental health, etc.

As a Study Abroad student you'll have access to the latest teaching and learning resources. For example, eLearning studios are designed for collaborative work in small groups and have PCs, laptop interconnectivity and data projectors; iMedia theatres and theatrettes have lecture capture that records audio and visual content from lectures making streamed and downloadable versions of these recordings.

Then there are those spaces specifically designed for particular disciplines. The Engineering Learning Lab supports group and collaborative work. The Law moot court trains future lawyers in using technology to present their cases. Biology labs are equipped with audiovisual equipment so that microscope, video and 35mm slide images can be projected to television monitors ; and the Information Systems Interaction Design, Evaluation and Analysis (IDEA) laboratory is specially designed for conducting computer user experience tests and interaction research.

Outside the classroom, the University's beautiful grounds and gardens provide opportunities for reflection and recreation. Next-door to Melbourne's CBD, the University of Melbourne's location, you have to admit, is also a pretty big attraction. It's close to transport, fantastic cafes, arts and sports venues and accommodation. Everything is accessible!

  • Highlights

'The Melbourne Welcome' program takes place prior to Orientation Week. Run by students for students, the program is designed to orient study abroad students to the campus and the city of Melbourne from a youthful point of view. Study abroad students are given priority placement into University affiliated housing venues near campus. All are within a close distance to the city center and to restaurants, shopping, entertainment and public transport.

Subjects like Australia Now: Environments, Institutions, Cultures; Comparing New Worlds: Australia and America; Exploring Central Australia help students understand the forces that continue to shape Australia. From 2011, opportunities also exist for Service Learning through the new subject 'Volunteering for Change'.

Support staff at the International Centre are dedicated to assisting study abroad students with any issues relating to living and study in Melbourne.

Academic advisers in each faculty enable study abroad students to make the most of their time here, helping them to settle in quickly and predict academic and cultural differences that will play a role in their studies.
