Welcome to the University of Iowa! We are proud to be an institution whose top priorities are high-quality education, world-class research, and deeply committed service. We have over 100 areas of baccalaureate study, all grounded in the liberal arts. Our graduate and professional programs offer cutting-edge training in over 100 areas, such as medicine, dentistry, law, education, business, engineering, the social sciences, the physical and biological sciences, and the arts and humanities. We were the first University to accept creative work for advanced degrees, and our Writers Workshop remains the premiere creative writing program in the world. Students here are instructed by some of the finest teachers and scholars in the world.

The excellence of the University ripples far beyond the Iowa River bluffs that run through our lovely campus. Our faculty travel the globe conducting and presenting their research. Every year, more and more of our students study and take internships abroad. You can find the University of Iowa actively engaged in every corner of the earth: Chicago, Washington, D.C., Argentina, Germany, Tanzania, India, China, Indonesia, Australia--you name it, we're there. But we don't even let the confines of the earth stop us! We have some of the most advanced space research anywhere happening right here in Iowa City.

The mission of the Office for Study Abroad is to provide alternative learning environments for University of Iowa students in order for them to benefit from new academic perspectives and intercultural experiences. In fulfilling this mission, our primary responsibilities include: * Developing and administering study abroad programs and exchanges for the University of Iowa * Promoting study and research abroad opportunities among students, faculty and staff * Providing assistance to interested students in the selection of a suitable study abroad * Offering program support, guidance and a variety of services to UI students before, during and following a study experience abroad; including administration of scholarship competitions supporting study or research abroad
