The Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara (UAG) is located in the state of Jalisco in central Mexico. With 5 million people, Guadalajara is Mexico's second largest city. Despite its size, Guadalajara's excellent system of buses and subways gives the locals access to most of its sights within 20 minutes (a bus ticket costs ~30 cents).
For those who want to see the city at a more leisurely pace, Guadalajara has many wonderful tree-lined avenues, parks, and plazas. It has produced a number of familiar Mexican icons such as mariachi music and tequila. Because of Guadalajara's economic importance, Idaho keeps a permanent trade office there. Since it lies at the junction where the north meets the south of Mexico, it is a cultural mecca with numerous museums, craft markets, artists, dancers, and musicians.
Recreational Activities - There are a number of clubs that students can join on campus, including karate, folk dancing, soccer, cooking, football, and tennis. There are also a number of clubs and recreational facilities in Guadalajara that students can take advantage of, including mountain climbing, hiking, akido, fitness clubs, and internet cafes.
