Modeled after the University of Paris, the Universidad de Zaragoza was founded in 1583 in Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon. Located on the banks of the Ebro River, Zaragoza has a population of 700,000, and has a rich artistic and cultural heritage dating back more than 2,000 years--first as a Roman city, then as an important center of Arab culture in Spain, and later as the capital of the Kingdom of Aragon.
There are a number of important historical monuments throughout the city including the Basilica of Nuestra Senora del Pilar, the Cathedral of La Seo, and the Aljaferia Castle. Today the city is a vibrant service and industrial center with easy access to the Pyrenees Mountains and Mediterranean Sea. The Universidad de Zaragoza is one of the main university centers in Spain with approximately 45,000 students enrolled in 25 degree programs. The university sponsors many social activities and cultural events. Students may also participate in a number of campus organizations and clubs as well as sports (soccer, hockey, rugby, wrestling, karate, swimming, tennis, aikido, cycle touring, aerobics, and weighttraining).
Internships - It may be possible to participate in an internship through this
program. While it is the student's responsibility to arrange for this internship, the Universidad de Zaragoza has close connections with many local and national governmental agencies, businesses, and institutions, and can help students find an appropriate employment site.
