  • Highlights

Whether you want to give back to the community through volunteer work or explore the rich Moroccan culture, you can do it here. There are literally hundreds of reasons why Al Akhawayn is the right study abroad location for you. Quality academic programs, caring faculty, impressive facilities, and a residential campus environment will surely meet your study needs. Morocco is a unique blend of African cultures from the original Berber inhabitants to the Arab Muslim culture of present. Today most Moroccans are Sunni Muslims of Arab, Berber, or mixed Arab-Berber heritage. The Arab Muslim culture has been dominant from the 7th century when the culture was first established. The French occupation has left an francophone overlay and it is common to hear French, Arabic, Tamazigh (Berber) spoken in almost the same sentence. In the north, the Spanish influence is still felt and there is a strong Andalucian influence in much of Moroccan life. The beaches of the south are a winter haven for Northern Europeans who escape the harsh northern climates for the sun and sand of Agadir. Morocco is a cultural treasure trove.
