Creative Arts Therapy is an emerging and dynamic field in the mental health profession, in which the process of making art is used for psychotherapy, education, rehabilitation and personal growth. The University of Haifa is the only accredited academic institution in Israel to offer a graduate degree in this vital and growing field.
The Academic Program
The MA in Creative Arts Therapies is a year-long program, taught over three semesters. The program includes 4 days a week at the University and 1 day of supervised field training placements of education, welfare, or health. Upon completion of the program, students will earn a master's degree in Creative Arts Therapies with a specialization in Art Therapy, Drama Therapy, or Psychodrama.
General Admission Requirements
Prospective students are required to complete prerequisite courses in developmental and abnormal psychology, physiology, research methods, statistics and theoretical courses in the modality of choice before they can begin their studies.
Candidates for the master's degree must pass the GRE or complete supplementary bachelor's studies.
Arts-Based Requirements
Candidates must provide documented proof of experience in the relevant art form, including official training and hands-on training. "Hands-on" experience with the art form can include, for example: documented performances, recitals, acting or dancing shows, exhibitions, arts-based community work, etc. For the Art Therapy specialization, this may be in the form of an equivalent portfolio.
