Economic and Regional Studies of Latin America

Location

Argentina: Buenos Aires
Bolivia: La Paz
Chile: Santiago
Czech Republic: Prague

Description

The program is designed for students from all over the World who have completed their bachelors education. Previous education in international relations, political science, history, law, economics, sociology, public policy, public administration, or other social science or humanities is an advantage. Students from other programs may be candidates as well.

One of the most important characteristics of this program is that it offers an excellent opportunity to acquire substantial international experience and obtain a double degree with one of several prestigious universities in Latin America.

Students have two options: to study two years in Prague or they will have the opportunity to finish their second year of study in Latin America. They will have the option to study in English or Spanish, depending on the program and partner university chosen. The partner programs are fully compatible with the Czech program. Our current partners are located in Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. We will soon be adding more partner universities in Peru and Uruguay.

The objective of the program is to provide graduates with the knowledge that will make it possible to understand the economic and social systems of Latin America and Europe. It will provide students with the skills and knowledge to work in professional and managerial functions that coordinate and operate in the areas of economic co-operation between the EU, Czech Republic and Latin American countries, as well as within the private and financial sector.

The subjects taught will provide students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary through a broad range of economic and regional studies of Latin America and related research and business. Presentations of Latin American economics, geography, social, cultural and environmental aspects will be a part of the study program. The studies will also focus on processes and results of integration in both Europe and Latin America.

For more information about the recruitment process, please contact the Center for Latin American Studies CLAS.

Highlights

The teachers of our faculty develop the economic theory courses in close cooperation with other Czech and foreign universities.

The faculty members all work within the field, at government institutions, as consultants in economic policy, as public authorities or in the private sector. (Prof. Ing. Robert Holman, CSC Board Member of the Czech National Bank). Even the President of the Czech Republic, prof. Mr. Václav Klaus, Csc., is a member of the Scientific Board of the Faculty and since 2005 the President has regularly organized the course Principles of economic thought.

Our Master's Program has an international character; our faculty list includes the presence of the distinguished Ambassador of Mexico in Prague, José Luis Bernal with the best experts in this field.

This program offers a great opportunity to acquire substantial international experience and to obtain a double degree. The degrees are from the University of Economics in Prague and the second, will be obtained from the university of choice, where the student chose to study for their second year of the Master's. At the moment this dual degree option is available in Argentina, Bolivia or Chile.
