IT and computing form an essential element of almost all organisations, from small companies through to international organisations. At a personal level technology is increasingly important in everyday life, mobile phones, the internet and access to public services.
This course is designed specifically to produce graduates who can apply their knowledge and IT skills to real-world problems and understand why certain techniques, methods and practices should be adopted and followed.
These skill sets are developed throughout the course using a combination of academic and applied practical studies, taught by a team of dedicated professionals who maintain high standards based on relevant industrial experience combined with academic knowledge.
The academically focussed elements tend to be assessed through reports, papers and examinations whilst the practically focussed elements will be assessed through application, project work and critical evaluation. This combination of academic and applied skills will place you in a strong position upon graduation.
We equip you for employment in the IT and computing sector, giving you the key skills needed for a wide range of graduate jobs. It also prepares you for further studies at postgraduate level.
Many of our graduates go on to work in the IT sector both in the Cumbrian region and nationally. There is no single preferred destination for employment, the course is broad enough to enable a wide range of careers to be pursued.
In recent years we have successfully placed graduates in jobs ranging from Aerial Surveying (making use of specialist Geographical Information Systems knowledge gained on the course) through to IT Entrepreneurs who have set up their own IT companies. More typically however, we would expect graduates to find jobs in software development, web development, network administration or user support.
Employers in the Cumbrian region range from small companies through to very large multi-national organisations and we have a track record of placing graduates with companies across the entire range, for example Sellafield Ltd., Agilisys, Capita, Regional Councils, Educational institutions as well as smaller organisations such as Rocket Consulting Ltd. And M&K Update Ltd.
