Berkeley Summer Sessions offers exciting Travel Study programs that give you the chance to combine international travel with academic achievement. Courses are taught by regular rank UC Berkeley faculty, faculty of host institutions, and UC Berkeley graduate student instructors.
Come to the beautiful colonial city of Guanajuato to explore the 1810 War for Independence as a revolution against slavery and Spanish colonialism and for racial and ethnic equality. Examine the diversity of cultures that emerged before and after independence was won - cultures rooted in indigenous Mexico, Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Take walking tours to the museums and historic sites within the city of Guanajuato and travel to historical sites throughout the state, including the city of Dolores Hidalgo where the call for independence was made. There will also be a trip to Mexico City to visit the Teotihuacan Pyramids, the National Museum of Anthropology, Frida Kahlo's House, and other historic and cultural sites. The course will end with a comparative analysis of the 1810 and 1910 Revolutions.
