Mobile communications has become the touchstone activity driving the most important and dynamic economic sectors worldwide over the last few years. It is a global business that thrives on innovation and for which our students are exhaustively trained on our "Mobile Computing" (MC) degree programme. In-depth technical knowledge in one or more specialist areas equips our students with the pro-active qualities that underpin leadership/ management positions, and can lead to high-flying careers.
Be it conceptualisation of communications systems, development of new interactive technologies for mobile phone applications, the design of a smart home environment or implementation of new mobile services - there is hardly an area in which Mobile Computing graduates won't be able to thrive. Mobile applications are now an all-pervasive part of our daily life, and you will be working in a highly dynamic field with excellent career prospects. Among potential employers keen to hire our graduates are not only mobile communication firms but also multinational corporations, small and middle-sized enterprises and many innovative start-up ventures in the IT sector.
The Mobile Computing Master's degree builds on the Bachelor of the same name and continues the tried-and-tested combination of teaching software development, communications technologies and telecommunication engineering. All relevant areas of mobile computing are covered, and the degree allows specialisation in one or more of the following focus areas:
* Mobile Computing (including mobile services and networks)
* Ubiquitous Computing (context-aware computing, sensors, networks, home/building automation, short-range wireless communication)
* Mobile Infotainment (mobile games and interactive technologies)
* Mobile Software Techniques (operating systems for mobile applications such as iPhone OS, Google Android, Symbian OS, Qt, MeeGo, Windows Phone 7, Mobile Linux, BlackBerry, bada; modelling languages such as UML; and software architectures)
In each of these areas you attend a specific number of core courses and a variable number of courses to deepen your knowledge. Additional interdisciplinary elective courses are also available; these vary from semester to semester.
