With a large number of unique ethnic communities, Uganda is also very culturally diverse. While on the road to recovery from its devastating economic past, Uganda still faces many social problems which welcome volunteers input. Explore the variety of cultures and landscapes in this beautiful country while using your skills to assist a local community. United Planet's Volunteer Abroad Quest program offers signature pre-departure and in-country training, personal volunteer support, meaningful volunteer opportunities, diverse cultural and learning activities, local excursions, a strong host family network, and much more.

Highlights

Long-term Volunteer Quests are available for 6 months and 1 year. Volunteers receive personal and customized support and take part in intensive pre-departure training and in-country orientations as well as mid-year and final year camps with other volunteers from all over the world. You do not need any specific skills or language abilities to take part. You will attain new skills, competencies, and broadened global perspectives through your involvement in the long-term Quest program!

As a long-term volunteer, you will have the exciting opportunity to gain an even deeper understanding and appreciation of a foreign land and culture through service, language and inter-cultural training, cultural learning activities, and exploration.

Uganda:

Uganda, referred to as the Pearl of Africa, is a landlocked country in East Africa. This nation has some of the most diverse groups of animals ranging from the endangered mountain gorilla to the common chimpanzee. With a large number of ethnic communities, Uganda is also very culturally diverse. We are offering you the opportunity to travel to this East African country through 27 different volunteer programs. Many of the programs are centered on children and education but are also offered in environment and health services.

Specific projects in Uganda:

* Education Projects: Volunteers work with children and young people, encouraging them to stay in school through the creation and execution of workshops such as language classes, computing, sports, drama or music.

* Social Projects: Volunteers assist children from a variety of disadvantaged backgrounds including rescued child laborers, abandoned street children, disabled children, children from troubled families, those who have suffered abuse, and orphans.

* Homeless Projects: Volunteers assist staff at local organizations with the maintenance of households that receive homeless young people.

* Environmental Projects: Volunteers work with local organizations to promote ecological education through the running of conservation awareness seminars.

Qualifications

Capable to work with orphans, maturity, flexibility, common sense and spoken English. To care for the children in need, playing with them and teaching some lessons to them working as (care guide) - Teaching, Drawing & playing with children, Music & Sports.
