Volunteer Abroad in Jordan - United Planet - 1-12 Weeks

Location

Jordan: Amman

Description

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is located in the Middle East, with a 26 kilometer coastline on the Red Sea. Jordan is filled with ancient ruins, fertile valleys, and empty deserts. Millions of Western tourists visit this safe, politically stable country each year to enjoy the famous rock-carved city of Petra, hike the visually stunning cliffs and mountains of Wadi Rum, or relax along the Dead Sea.

Jordan is a small country with limited natural resources, yet compared to other developing countries in the region, it enjoys a relatively high per-capita income. Education and literacy rates are well above the average for comparable countries, as well. However, Jordan has a very young population 38% of inhabitants are under the age of fourteen and unemployment remains as high as 30% by some estimates.

United Planet's Jordan program is multifaceted and growing and there are many opportunities for volunteers to make a critical difference. Volunteers can play an important role in contributing to the local community and in building bonds of understanding. Many opportunities are offered on projects supporting the environment and focusing on community development.

United Planet's Volunteer Abroad Quest program offers signature pre-departure and in-country training, personal volunteer support, meaningful volunteer opportunities, diverse cultural and learning activities, local excursions, a strong host family network, and much more.
