  • Description

We welcome you to join the only US graduate level accredited 120 hour TEFL/TESOL training program in Thailand's most exciting city: Bangkok!

Eligible TESOL course graduates can earn nine US graduate credits and have the choice of working as international educators in Thailand while completing their US Master degree, taught on weekends in Bangkok, Thailand.

    * US Master degree taught on weekends in Bangkok for international educators
    * Volunteer or paid teaching positions available for trained native English speakers or those with a Bachelor's degree in education.
    * Teaching/volunteer placement positions available for two months or longer throughout Thailand
    * Internship opportunities available to work at the school (unpaid, but room and board provided)

  • Highlights

Volunteer teaching available upon completion of the TEFL course:
Ten Thai Government run boarding schools in Northeastern Thailand (Isaan region) taking in abused, orphaned, abandoned (due also to disabilities in cases), and otherwise unwanted children in need of someone who cares. Each school is situated on a very large campus and has very dedicated teaching staff and administration, some of whom speak English. Class size is generally large, and students are well-behaved and enthusiastic, if shy at first.

Housing is comfortable (by Thai and generally also foreign) standards, safe, and on campus. Schools will provide food and housing and a tremendous amount of hospitality, but have no budget to pay you. Applicants are encouraged to contact Kiwanis, Rotary, Elks or their religious organization for sponsorship.

Loans can be deferred as you will be able to proave that you do goodwill work with no pay. A character building experience, and one that may well be the hardest you have ever gone through (culture shock, heat, adjusting to new situation etc.), but certainly also the most rewarding as most of these children have never encountered a foreigner. This is your chance to leave lasting impressions and truly improve lives for those who do not have the means to do so otherwise. In return, it will also touch and change your life forever. Option for short term travel available during the school year if discussed and agreed upon by administration.

    * Temperature and climate: Hot and dry, generally no air pollution
    * Pace of life: Slow, gentle, polite, and "genuinely Thai"
    * Time commitment: Three months to one year or longer
    * Remuneration: Room and board (housing and food), incredible sense of pride, belonging and achievement upon completion

  • Qualifications

    * Bachelor degree in progress (Junior or Senior standing)acceptable, graduates preferred
    * Open to all majors, but education related or liberal Arts majors most applicable
    * An open mind and solid understanding that this placement is in a foreign hot and humid South East Asian country and things are very different here than back in the United States. Internet access available in all big cities, some placements are in the country where access to internet is but once per week or so.
    * Prior independent travel experience is a definite plus, as is a strong understanding of one's capabilities when facing hardship if participating in volunteer teaching opportunities.
