We believe that the best way to know and understand other cultures is to live alongside them for a period of time. To make this possible for people who are interested, members of Udutama visit the organizations in Thailand that host volunteers, evaluate the results of the pervious year and explore the possibilities of offering new programs with local organizations. Thanks to this direct contact and the process of annual evaluation, we can offer first hand information, answer your questions personally and guarantee an ever improving experience, as well as managing enrollments and the logistics of placing volunteers on the various programs.
With these volunteer programs you will have the opportunity to broaden your experience and knowledge of other cultures in a satisfying and interesting way. In the following document you can find information about the 2 programs we offer and how we can work together.
At Udutama we believe in a cooperation in which every person, society and culture makes decisions on their own development (Providing these decisions do not negatively affect anyone physically or mentally), understanding that there is no right or wrong, better or worse. With a foundation of respect and equality, volunteers should be open and understanding of other world views and willing to live following the rules of a culture that in most cases is very different to their own. The volunteer should never try to promote or teach western ideas. At Udutama we wish to encourage sharing and cooperation not teaching or helping in the paternalistic sense and we hope that our volunteers share our vision of development.
We are satisfied that through our personal service that those who participate share our vision and have a full understanding of what it means to be a volunteer.
To participate in our programs you should be over 18 year of age, or be accompanied by family members who are. We recommend that all volunteers have an intermediate level of English, although we do not require qualifications to prove this. It is important to keep in mind that the vast majority of people in the areas you will visit do not speak English. It is recommended that you make the effort to learn at least a few basic phrases in Thai. We provide documents in Thai with the names of the places you may need to ask for so that you may show these to locals you may need assistance from. Finally we would hope that you share our vision and values which you can find on our webpage
The cost of the volunteer program depend on the program and the duration.

UDUTAMA is not a development aid association if development is understood as the process to be followed by retarded cultures to evolve and get closer to ways of life of our western and civilized culture. UDUTAMA is a "development" aid association if "development" is understood as a process for social and cultural change towards a higher degree of well being as decided by the community who is changing. We could have the case, for example, of a development which would make the community evolve in a direction which is different from the way of life in Western countries. On these lines we are talking of a development inherent to the own culture, with no external imposition. UDUTAMA is an association of human rights if we add to them the collective rights that minority cultural communities should have to preserve their livelihoods without external impositions and at the same time enjoy the social and political rights that citizens within the hegemonic culture of living have. UDUTAMA is an association which prefers to strengthen and enrich cultural diversity. UDUTAMA is an association which wishes to act according the utmost transparency, democracy and equality among its members.
