Royal Sea Sanctuary Conservation Project Thailand

Location

Thailand: Bangkok

Description

This is a great opportunity to be a part of a Royal Project initiated by the King of Thailand where you will participate in a conservation initiative on the beautiful coast of eastern Thailand.

You'll help to preserve endangered sea life and play an important role in the running of the initiative, enjoying the pristine beach of Ao Kung Krabaen in your free time.

Highlights

* Day 1: Bangkok - arrival transfer
Arrival and joint-transfer to your accommodation. An experienced guide will meet you at the airport and will provide you with some useful tips for exploring the city and give you some ideas of what you could do on your tour.

* Day 2: Bangkok - an orientation tour - learn Thai
Today is a tour on foot. The aim is to ensure that you see as much as possible of the everyday life of Bangkok and its people, and what better way to do that than to combine your walk with as many different modes of public transport as possible. Stops on the tour will normally include some interesting temples, a flower market and Little India or Chinatown.

Then you will spend some time learning Thai in an informal atmosphere. You will have lessons that start with simple words and conversation, just enough to get by, and then more specific words that you will need according to the project you are joining. Then go out to try it in real-life situations, such as a local market, taking your own transport and trying to bargain for things by yourself.

* Day 3: Bangkok - Chantaburi - Kung Krabaen Bay - Royal Sea Sanctuary Project
Take a pubic air-conditioned bus to Chanthaburi and then with local pick-up truck continue to Kung Krabaen Bay. Meet the staff for orientation of the project and see in which areas you can best be of assistance.

* Days 4-12: Royal Sea Sanctuary Project
Though the project was an initiative of the King's, it still cannot run independently. The main problem is a lack of capable people who have a good understanding about marine life and are willing to give their time to the project. Your input in this will play an important role to the project's success.

Opportunities for you to help include: the sea life study project, conservation projects, the Sea-crab Bank project, the survey-diving project, teaching (to educate the local people), IT (to help with websites, exhibitions, demonstrations, etc) and hospitality assistance (greeting and showing around other foreign visitors).

* Day 13: Chantaburi - Bangkok
After saying farewell to your colleagues at the project you will return to Bangkok by public bus.

* Day 14: Bangkok - departure transfer
Spend this last free day shopping or exploring more of Bangkok on your own. Then joint transfer to the airport for flight home.

You will be free during weekends and public holidays. The coordinator will help you with information to plan your own traveling during this free time.
