    The Stone Center for Latin American Studies invites students interested in Portuguese language and Brazilian studies to participate in a summer program in Brazil during the summer of 2012.

    Setting Description: Sao Paulo, the largest metropolis in Latin America, is an exciting center for fine arts, theater, music and cultural life. This city is a medley of Brazilians from all the country's 26 states and from multiple ethnic groups (Japanese, Italian, Jewish, Syrian and Lebanese, etc.) which makes for an exciting mix of traditions and fabulous food on every street. Plunge into the vibrant entertainment scene and explore an extraordinary nightlife. When tired of the fast pace of Sao Paulo, head to the beaches which are just a couple of hours away.

  • Highlights

    All students enroll in two courses for a total of 67 credits. Language courses include:
    * Brazilian Portuguese: Language and Culture - Intermediate Level (PORT 2030; 4 credits) or Brazilian Portuguese: Language and Culture - Advanced Level (PORT 3040; 3 credits).
    * The second course is Perspectives on Brazilian Culture (BRAZ 4130; 3 credits; in English) OR Brazilian Cultural Imaginaries (PORT 6130; 3 credits).

  • Program Fees Include:

    The cost of the six-week program is USD6,500, which includes: six or seven Tulane University credits (transferable to other universities); home stays; daily breakfast and some meals; medical insurance; field trips and events, and an approximately USD170 fee for registration with Federal Police of Brazil. FLAS breakdown is the following: USD4800 for tuition and USD1700 for housing/board.
