Description

Gain an international qualification to teach English upon completion of this 4-week intensive TEFL course in Madrid. You will also undertake additional specialized modules to gain skills to teach in the Spanish market, giving you a competitive advantage over non-Tt Madrid graduates for job opportunities. Spain is desperate for English teachers, especially in businesses, so we give extra focus on teaching business. In addition to the basic TEFL qualification, you will have additional modules in:

1. The problems Spanish students, in particular, experience when learning English.
2. Business English
3. How to teach children, and how it differs from adults
4. How to teach intensive courses
5. The quickest and most effective techniques for getting teaching jobs in Spain
6. What is included in standard English exams
7. How to assess students' levels.

The ability to speak Spanish is not necessary to be an English teacher, although if you would prefer to learn Spanish we also have a close relationship with AIL, one of the premier language schools in Madrid, and you receive a month of free evening classes after your TEFL course.

Don't have an EU citizenship?

This course is open to all native-level speakers of English, including those without an EU citizenship. If you do not have an EU citizenship, we have a Spanish Adventure Visa Programme. We have teamed up with AIL language school to allow these students to be in Spain on a year-long student visa, allowing you to legally work up to 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

You need to be educated to at least age 21 and have a degree, although there are sometimes exceptions, and are dealt with on a case by case basis. You must also speak English at a native level, meaning that it does not have to be your first language, but you must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. You must also be approachable and organized.

Salary/Pay

English teachers in Madrid start with an hourly salary of 15-20 euros ($20-30 USD) and this rises with experience. Most teachers in Madrid are freelance and choose their own working hours and the type of teaching they want. There's plenty of jobs to allow you to choose what type of work you want, for example not to teach children, or to specifically teach business English.
