ABOUT YOGA
Yoga is an ancient philosophical science developed on the wisdom of east. It is a way of living with healthy & happiness which combines physical fitness, mental alertness & emotional balance of an individual. Through it we can achieve the sound mind know as "sat-chit-ananda" (Truth conscious bliss) on which self confidence, self control, creativity, Imagination and positive attitude can be achieved.
At the retreat they practice the Astang Yoga (Eight Limbs). This specifically focuses on hatha yoga, meditation, sound therapy, the food discipline, and the six cleansing acts etc.
The Eight Steps §Yamas - ethical behaviour, truth, non-violence, non-stealing, non-covertness
Niyamas self-discipline, purity, surrender of ego
Asanas bodily postures § Pranayama breathing and control of the vital breath force
Pratahahara turning inward, releasing the ego & senses
Dhyrana concentration of the mind § Dyana meditation
Samadi transcendence
HATHA YOGA
Refers to all the physical energy that flows through the two channels of energy lines into the centre of body . "ha" is a solar or right tube (Pingala) and "tha" is the lunar or left tube (ida). The connection of "ha" & "tha" into sushumna (spinal cord) deals to hatha yoga practices. Through hatha yoga, the body organs & systems are cleansed through Asanas & Pranayama. Asanas heal an illness, reduces stress, promotes health & balance body, mind & soul.
FOOD-DISCIPLINE
It is one of the parts of yoga. A practitioner should apply the food-discipline for balancing the lifestyle. With the help of food-discipline, we can purify the physical mental intellectual and spiritual enhancement. It helps to release tri-dosh (wat, pitta & kaph) that is the balance the life. We should care so much about many things that concern food such as consuming natural foods, the amount food consumed, the time of meals, the way of eating, feeling good about the food we eat, the quality of food that we use and the cooking methods etc.
SIX CLEANSING ACTS
The fundamental cleansing acts used in yoga practices (sadhana) are called the six cleansing acts (shatkarma). They purify the body and mind and also make it easier to achieve the yogic goals by which the inner purity, peace, love, patience, stability, happiness, self-belief, self-actualization etc. can be achieved. They manipulate the five elements or Tri-dosh within the body.
MEDITATION
It is the bliss stage of mind. It is a concentration & constant state of the mind where there are no thoughts. Mind waves fix on a point and become very minute before moving into a vacuum state of consciousness. This is the state of mind where the "sat-chitta -ananda" (truth-conscious-bliss) is achieved. There are different type of meditation process including charkas-dhyan, active dhyan, sound meditation etc. Meditation gives you something that nothing else can - it introduces you to yourself on all levels.
Meditation will bring you:
- Peace of mind, calmness, and a sense of well being
- Better relationships, better health, and a better life
- Personal, philosophical, and spiritual insights
- The direct experience of your eternal centre of being
On arrival at the airport in Kathmandu, you will be welcome by the Travellers In-Country organizer, Anish Neupane, who will then take you to your accommodation. Usually, for the first night or two, you will stay in a hotel in Kathmandu in order to acclimatize and familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Then, you will be taken to your accommodation at the Orphanage where you will receive a basic induction and you will be introduced to the members of staff.
Facilities at the retreat are basic but comfortable. The retreat offers two different types of accommodation. There is accommodation in the bungalow, which the retreat has endearingly named 'Kailash' and there is also accommodation in the form of "luxurious" safari tents which are spread out amongst the grounds of the retreat. Both types of accommodation are available throughout the year. The tents all have twin single beds. The bungalow has rooms with both twin single beds and double beds (please request in advance if you require a double bed).
The bathroom facilities at the retreat are all shared. There are western toilets available. Hot and cold showers are available 24 hours a day. The retreat boasts internet and wi-fi facilities.
The retreat is set in two thirds of an acre of lush green landscape with the retreat boasting its own vegetable, fruit and herb gardens. The retreat offers fabulous views over the Kathmandu valley and within just a short walk you can enjoy fresh mountain water from the natural springs (five taps).
Food
During your programme you will receive three main meals a day, which is all included in the cost of your programme. All the food provided will be vegetarian, with much of the food being typical traditional Nepali cuisine, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the culture! The Nepali staple diet is a dish known as 'Dahl Bhat' a delicious and healthy mixture of rice, lentils and curried vegetables often served with chutney or pickle (known as 'Achar'). Tea will be available at intervals throughout the day. Western-style food is readily available in town.
