Drastically deprived but excited and eager South Africa township children love to see volunteers lending a helping hand in their classrooms. Assist local teachers in daily lessons and if you are up for it, take over entire lessons yourself and integrate new ideas and ways to help the children learn. This rewarding and energetic project will never let you forget the people you meet and the children you help. These children love and appreciate volunteers and you will make a real difference in the attention you give these children..not to mention feeling like a superstar when you enter the room and all the little ones run up to hug you!!
PROJECT OVERVIEW
In the lovely town of Knysna, you will be based at one of the schools in the local townships working closely with some really enthusiastic and energised children who are eager to learn. Any skills you can offer to the schools will really benefit the children and will be greatly appreciated by all.
We currently work closely with both Primary Schools and Secondary Schools in the local area and you will have the chance to teach a range of different subjects from Conversational English to Design Technology, Sports or Music and Drama and many other subjects.
In the afternoons when you have finished school for the day you may also have the opportunity to help out with one of the many afternoon activities. For example volunteers in the past have spent their afternoons helping out at either a local orphanage or at the soup kitchen and art centre for children. Volunteers have really enjoyed spending time interacting with the kids and most importantly the kids love it too!!
Your accommodation will be based in one of our volunteer houses in Knysna itself, just a short walk from the town and local amenities. You'll be given a food budget which will cover all your meals. All you will need is some pocket money for any luxury items you may require such as cokes, shampoo and for any site seeing or travelling around.
If your looking to also do a bit of site seeing in your spare time then Knysna is definitely the option for you as there are endless amounts of activities to do and places to see in and around the local area. Anything from experiencing a bungy jump or bridge swing at Bloukrans Bridge or a sky dive in Plettenberg Bay, a visit to the elephant sanctuary or a whale and dolphin encounter and many, many more!
You don't need any qualifications to take part in this project, just enthusiasm and lots of energy! So come to South Africa and have a trip of a life time!

We employ local people in our destination countries and local providers of goods and services, thus ensuring we have a positive impact on the community. Our ethos encompasses mutual respect, cultural exchange, responsible travel and a beneficial outcome for all. Travellers also arranges work experience placements in Journalism, Law, Veterinary, Medicine, Tourism, Architecture, and many more. There are also opportunities to learn languages and other skills such as Capoeira in Brazil, Tango in Argentina or Flying in South Africa. These projects are unique - and tailored to suit you!
