Program Duration
1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks
Dates
Available all year round. Our placements are very flexible, you can choose your own start and finish dates.
Learn to Dance in Buenos Aires, the elegant capital city of Argentina and home of the flamboyant Tango! During your placement you will have lessons with a private tango teacher, who will tailor your programme to your individual level of expertise.
You will also get the chance to see a Tango Show. Tango shows include both singing and dancing and take place in local theatres. Currently, "Homero Manzi" and "La Esquina Balcarce" are both popular shows which interpret the story and history of Tango from its early beginnings to date.
Your dance lesson schedule will allow plenty of time for sightseeing and absorbing the experience of being in Argentina, and now you can also combine your Tango placement with a Spanish Course
During your programme you'll have lessons with one of two private tango teachers who regularly teach in various places throughout Buenos Aires If you are female you will have lessons with a male teacher and if you are male you will have lessons with a female teacher. The lessons scheduled for you are:
* Three private tango classes per week, each lasting one and a half hours. These will usually be taken in the afternoons but there will be some flexibility, depending on your teacher's schedule.
* You will get a chance to attend a Milonga. A Milonga is an open Tango party where all levels mix together. People from all over come to this weekly social event, where everyone dances together and continually change couple - all lots of fun! You may chose to go any day of the week should you want to.
Your dance schedule will allow plenty of time for sightseeing and absorbing the experience of being in Argentina.
To read about a volunteers experience of Tango in Buenos Aires please check out the Blog of Sally Blake, a Travellers volunteer embarking on an adventure to perfect her dancing skills!
"The elusive spirit of Argentina is present everywhere in Buenos Aires. The national dance, the Tango, is perhaps the best expression of that spirit - practiced in dance halls, parks, open plazas, and ballrooms, it is a dance of intimate separation and common rhythm, combining both an elegant reserve and an exuberant passion."
OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO WHILE ON THIS PROJECT:
Add to your travel experience in Argentina by doing some additional exciting activities - you never know, you could develop a passion for Latin American dance, or learn a new skill!
Salsa Courses:
Salsa music is a synthesis of European and African musical influences that was born in Cuba. You'll learn from a Cuban teacher who will tailor lessons to suit your level, even totally beginners.
Spanish Language Courses:
You can take a few hours of private lessons a week at the same time as doing your project. You'll be amazed at how much it will add to your enjoyment during your stay.
Photography Courses:
6 hours per week of photography lessons in colourful Buenos Aires where there is a host of subjects you can capture with your camera.
This project can also be combined with any of our other projects in Argentina, or you could even do a second project in a different region of the country, thus doubling your adventure and enjoyment!
