Care for Orphans in the districts of Kathmandu and Lalitpur! We work with many local NGO's that have a range of centres for you to volunteer at during your programme. Many children of Nepal are unfortunate enough to be left homeless on the streets without a roof over their head, but luckily, due to the work of these orphanages, many children are lucky enough to be provided with shelter, food, clothing and a decent education.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
We work with a range of local NGO's in and around the Kathmandu and Lalitpur Districts, which means that your time may be split between one or a number of children's orphanages, depending on the needs of the project.
You can give these children the love, care and attention that they need, whilst also working to help improve their skills by teaching them English, assisting them with their homework, and teaching them basic but vital things, such as hygiene.
WORK CONTENT:
We work at a number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in the districts of Kathmandu and Lalitpur. These organisations are dedicated to improving the quality of life for the children and enhancing their outlook for the future. You can also become a part of this amazing goal.
Your work will usually take place before and after school hours, because from 10 am to 3 pm, the children will be at school. This means that the majority of your work will take place before or after the school day. Your working day will usually start at around 6.30 - you'll help the children to eat their breakfast and prepare for school. You'll also accompany the children to school safely.
For the time that they are at school, you can use this to take part in some sightseeing or simply to plan your activities at the Orphanage for later on in the day. The children will usually return home at about 3 pm. During this time, you can help them with their homework as well as teach them some additional English.
If you have some initiative, you could set up an after school club with fun activities such as games, drama, art or anything else that's creative and will engage their attention and their minds Then, it will be dinner time. You may be required to help prepare the food in the kitchen as well.
Because we work with a range of orphanages, the age ranges of the children is likely to vary significantly. You are likely to work with not only young children (aged from 2 to 12) but often with teenagers up to the age of 18 years old who also live at the orphanage.
Depending on the length of your placement, it's likely that you will be placed at one or perhaps a variety of orphanages.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
During the Care Programme, your accommodation will be based within the orphanage that you're working at. This is so that you can spend as much time as possible with the children, particularly if your volunteer work takes place during term time.
The accommodation is basic but comfortable, with facilities including a living area, TV, DVD player and sofas available in most of the accommodation. Your accommodation will be in a separate room from the children, with a private or en-suite bathroom and you will most likely share a room with another volunteer.
