Discover Kenya (Medical) (May and June 2010)

The gentlemen that manage Touch Africa are some of the most motivated, hard working, and responsible people I met whilst in Kenya. They have several years of experience hosting volunteers from all over the world and are very familiar with the needs and comforts of westerners. Their programs are in very safe areas and the host families treat volunteers like royalty. The staff of Touch Africa are committed to doing good and making real change in the communities of Kenya, but what's more, they are committed to ensuring that volunteers have the experience of a lifetime as well. They will bend over backwards to accommodate visitors in any way that they can.

mission trip to Gotani (June, 2009)

Touch Africa is run by a group of guys that have a maturity level and vision way beyond their years. They obviously keep God in their hearts at all times with the decisions they make throughout their various Touch Africa programs. Their committment to hosting foreign guests is impeccable; safeguards for travel, staying healthy in a foreign country with the food and water consumed, and the warm hospitality shown by the host families. George, Santa, and Charro all have an outstanding vision to show Kenyans how to help themselves under whatever blessings God has bestowed upon them. They recognize no foreign influence can come in and fix their problems; only Kenyans can take care of their own business. Kenyans will bless their foreign guests with a forever changed heart as they return back to their homes, in most part to the work that George, Santa, and Charro do. On a trip like this foreign guests do not "Touch Africa"; in truth, Africa touches everyone else.

Rainbow Children's Orphanage (July 2007)

Touch Africa was an amazing organization that made our experience in Kenya stress-free. Touch Africa was very involved in making us feel safe and comfortable, and ensuring that our travels were seamless and well organized. We were able to visit a number of schools and educational institutions where we were able to participate in problem solving activities in their communities. Our volunteer experience was exceptional at the orphanage/school... we could not have asked for a better group of people to work with, who are dedicated to improving their community.

My time in Africa this year was the experience of a lifetime! And it was enabled by Touch Africa International. From the first greeting at the airport till the time they put us back on the plane to go home...we were family, and that was very important to me. The individuals of Touch Africa are top notch in every way...and their love for the people and of their country is evident in all they do. Our arrival was a time of celebration as we were welcomed into the homes of wonderful families in Kaloleni, becoming a part of their family. We ate, worked, laughed, cried and rejoiced with wonderful individuals in the remote village of Gotani...who have now become lifelong friends. And then, as if that were not enough, we were able to go on a safari, flying over the large city of Nairobi to the beautiful Masai Mara where we saw the abundant and exotic wildlife Kenya has to offer. As our two weeks came to a close, we were once again treated to a wonderful restaurant with George and Joel of Touch Africa...allowing us one last time to dine and reminisce of our time together. Thank you so very much George, Joel, Santa and all the others of Touch Africa International for making my first trip to Africa a time to remember!

Discover Kenya (Novemeber 2007)

Being a part of the Discover Kenya tour was a very eye opening experience. I was really happy with the mix of helping the local community, learning about the culture and the more tourist style activities. The tour leaders were very friendly and fun!! I left with a better understanding of the people and the culture and felt as though I had made a real difference at some of the orphanages we visited. Overall it was a very rewarding experience that I would reccomend to anyone!!

Eastwind Community Church Gotani outreach (June 2009)

As a leader of the Eastwind Community Church outreach with Touch Africa, I am overall very impressed with the efforts of the staff of Touch Africa. Thus far, I see a group of individuals who are committed to the betterment of their community, and who are carefully discerning strategies to meet the overwhelming needs. My experience has taught me that it is not enough to have good intentions and a passion for this work, but what is required is careful analysis, thorough planning, paying close attention to the cultural constraints to empower the local community, rather than creating a dependency on the western culture. I believe that Touch Africa is committed to these principles.

General Volunteer program (May 2009)

Touch Africa is a wonderful organization that offers amazing opporunties to individuals from around the globe. My boyfriend and I went in May 2009 and had the time of our lives. We were able to live the Kenyan culture 1st hand. We had the joyous experience of living with a Kenyan family in a rural village. The family was extremely welcoming and treated us as one of thier own. The staff at Touch Africa were very kind and helpful. Thier hospitality really made our visit a trip of a lifetime. They ensured we were happy and SAFE at all points of our adventure. As well, they offered an ear to listen if there were any concerns. I would strongly recommend this experience. It is one you will never forget!

Medical Outreach (Summer 2010)

I had the opportunity to spend over three weeks in Kenya working in local hospitals and clinics. I constantly think back to my experiences in Kaloleni and Malindi and will be forever grateful for how that time has come to shape me as well as my future goals in regards to global health. Touch Africa is willing to work with any group of people and with any number of interests to provide you with the experiences you may be seeking.

Malindi District Hospital, Pediatrics Ward (April/May 2011)

After studying in Nairobi, Kenya at USIU since January, I moved out to Malindi for April and May to volunteer with Touch Africa at the District Hospital's Pediatric Ward. George and Joel were wonderful in helping me set up contacts and get involved in volunteering. My experience in the hospital was completely life changing. I was able to shadow doctors on their rounds, help nurses with medication administration, talk to patients in the little Kiswahili I knew, and take part in patient education. The cases I saw and the understanding I gained of practicing medicine in a different country completely changed my perspective. The experience challenged me and inspired me to pursue global health in the future. I am so thankful for the opportunity to volunteer with Touch Africa, and am looking to do so again in the future since I was so satisfied with the help and experience I gained.

Touch Africa International (July-August 2011)

I volunteered with Touch Africa for a period of 3.5 weeks, and the only thing I can say that even comes close to describing it is that it was an unforgettable, life-changing experience. Joel, George, and the rest of the Touch Africa staff were incredibly welcoming. They were very open to changing the program to satisfy our needs, and never hesitated to answer and of our questions. Most importantly, they were a relaxed group of individuals, which made working with them all the more enjoyable. I worked for a children's educational sponsorship programme in Kaloleni, where the work was eye-opening and very fulfilling. Furthermore, our host family was wonderful, and we were very well cared for. I would definitely recommend the program to anyone considering a volunteer trip in Kenya, and certainly wish to return there myself. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, I'm more than happy to answer them.

Malindi District Hospital (July, 2010)

Touch Africa truly provided us with an experience we will never forget. George and Joel were extremely helpful providing information and helping to arrange the trip. When we arrived in Kenya, we were greeted by welcoming staff that helped settle us in with our host family. We were assigned to work in Malindi Hospital and had a wonderful time working with the surgical team seeing cases that we would not be able to see at home.

Malindi District Hospital (Summer 2010)

George and Joel are great people who run a stellar organization. The professionalism of the staff, volunteer work, and housing accomodations all exceeded our expectations. The work completed at the hospital was both rewarding and challenging and it was a great privilege to be able to see and treat such unusual and rare medical cases. I highly encourage anyone looking for a great expirience to consider Touch Africa.
