The vision of Lea Mwana Children's Centre is harnessing community resources and capacity to develop a suitable centre and educational facility that promotes meaningful life to children.
The mission is to rehabilitate and educate orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) by giving them food, shelter, loving care and occasional opportunities. Our Motto is , 'LETS CARE TO CARE'.
Lea Mwana Children Centre (LMCC) is a children's centre located in Malindi Town, Shella Sub-Location opposite Malindi Municipal Clinic in the famous Muyeye Village. Currently the centre has thirty five children with 18 boys & 17 girls ranging between Four years (4) and Thirteen years (13), hence in future the population of the children will increase to 60 i.e. 35 girls and 25 boys.
Lea Mwana Children Centre (LMCC) is currently on rental premises but on the moment land has been acquired i.e. 2 acres and the building for a well planned permanent structure with proper ventilation and lighting with adequate facilities, running water and proper sanitation is planned to start in August this year 2010.
Lea Mwana Children Centre is non-partisan entity that focuses primarily on provision of basic necessities that endeavor to guarantee the children living a normal life without fear or favour. The centre was founded with the efforts of Chris and Agnes in 2006 and registered as a community Based Organization on 5th May with Registration No. SS/MLD/CD/MLD/92/206.
Problem Statement
The disparities between African families in poverty has made it difficult for people to manage family needs resulting in increased number of children in need of care and support. The adverse sex ratio, poor nutrition, diseases (HIV/AIDS), inequalities to wages/ salary and prevalence of violence against women and children point out the glaring inequality in social, political and economic status.
The drinking spree of Mnazi and some traditional cultural beliefs within the local community, has led to defilement of the children whereby are tempted to go from door to door to beg for sustenance. Some girls opt for early marriages and others will embark upon a life of child prostitution simply to survive.
It is the gift of care and support that can broaden the future of the children beyond culture and alone can ensure access to the enjoyment of the children's potentials in the society. Basic necessities will be made available at the same time, all the information for children rights and protection will help create health disposition for children in society.
