Great value

I've been on the BA TESOL course at Thongsook for two years now. It's definitely been worth the investment, both financially and from an academic standpoint. The course provides a good opportunity to acquire the necessary teaching skills to become a proficient ESL teacher. Most of the students on the course have teaching experience, so it makes for a good learning environment. The instructors are well organised and the syllabus is varied. The BA TESOL program is well managed and the administration staff are always extremely helpful.

BA TESOL degree - My time at Thongsook College

About three years ago I started on a journey the changed me as a person.

I came to Thailand with a number of others from South Africa to teach English. I finished a TEFL course and started teaching at schools in a smaller city in Thailand. However, I felt a bit at a loss, as the course prepared us for the Thai culture and classroom management, but I felt that I lacked actual teaching knowledge.

That was when I was introduced to Thongsook College and straight away enrolled in the BA TESOL degree course. It was a brand new course for the college and we all went through some teething problems, but persevered.

Now, after three years, working and studying and no holidays, I am finished. When I look back over the three years, I can honestly say that every drop of blood, sweat and, yes, tears at my age, was worth it.

I grew as a teacher, not only through the lectures, but by listening to my fellow students during presentations. I lost my fear for the classroom and management of the students. I understood that I should be myself, calm and collected, when I walked into a classroom. I learned that I could use my own background knowledge to draw up excellent lesson plans to make my lessons interesting and enjoyable to my students. Furthermore, I felt more confident using technology in the classroom. When I finished the last school year, I started my holiday knowing that I did an excellent job. If it was not for Thongsook College, I am sure that I would not have had that feeling. The reward was the good performance of my students and the parents’ positive comments.

I will never forget our lecturers, who all had their own personalities and lecturing styles. They were from different backgrounds, such as Nepal, Philippines, Australia and Thailand and I can only thank them for supplying the tools for us to be quality teachers.

The experience at Thongsook College did not only give us, the students, more understanding of the teaching process, but it also allowed us to meet fellow students from all over the world. We had fun times in the classroom and made friends for life.

Lastly, I am now prepared to further my studies by enrolling in a Masters course of my own choice, whether in Thailand or somewhere else, knowing that Thongsook College is not only respected in Thailand, but also in the rest of the world. I will definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to further his/her education to teach English as a foreign language in Thailand or in other countries.

From start to finish

I was one of the first intake of students on the B.A.TESOL course at Thongsook, and I saw it grow from a class of 18 students to a course with over 250 students when I graduated. Like the amount of students, the course itself also changed over time as improvements were made.

The course now has a new CEO who is prepared to completely immerse himself in the programme (something that was not always apparent before), and he is driving the programme on. The director of the College is completely dedicated to the course, and she always puts the students first. Thongsook is a small college, and one of the benefits of that is that anybody can go and talk to the CEO and director (even eat with them in the canteen), and they are always willing to help.

The class sizes are now at a very acceptable level of up to about 20 students per class and the content has been streamlined and organised over time to be easily understandable and this is facilitated by experienced lecturers who have been with Thongsook for a few years now.

I really enjoyed my time at this college. I like that it is not a big sprawling mess full of unfamiliar faces. The facilities may not be as good as a major university or college, but they are definitely sufficient for study in a great atmosphere.

I would advise anybody to go to Thongsook. I know they will learn what they need and will be happy doing it
