Learn how ordinary individuals and communities can inspire, mobilize, and engage with others to tackle vast public problems. The city of Belfast provides a rich context to examine the roles citizens, informal leaders, and public officials played in reconciling long-standing conflict. Students will also examine their own leadership throughout the seminar.
* Coursework *
Through lectures, readings, and various excursions students will explore leadership from the individual, group, and community perspectives.
* Excursions *
A number of excursions around Belfast and Dublin will be included in this program. Students will visit places of interest central to both the Catholic and Protestant movements. Sites may include Derry, the site of Bloody Sunday; churches; museums; former jails; peace centers; and various communities.
* Housing and Meals *
Students live in shared housing with other program participants. A welcome dinner and farewell luncheon are included in the program fee. Additional meals can be taken in the housing or at local eateries.
* On-Site Support *
On-site support is provided by a local learning abroad center. Students may have access to a computer lab, a classroom space, and a library. On-site staff provide information to students regarding cultural activities as well as ensuring 24-hour emergency support.
