  • Description

The Swedish Program at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) is a highly regarded study abroad program, offering a full range of liberal arts courses in English. Founded in 1987, we are a small program (enrolling around 40 students each semester) within a large international university. Originally located at Stockholm University, we moved to our current location at SSE in January 2013. The challenge of intercultural education is to learn about the institutions and people of a different society as you gain a better understanding of your own country and yourself. The distinctive features of the Program -- our curricular focus, high academic standards, commitment to cultural integration, and small size -- effectively promote this multifaceted learning experience.

  • Highlights

The Swedish Program is located at the Stockholm School of Economics in the heart of downtown Stockholm. It is one of Europe's most prestigious institutions. We are committed to providing our students with both a challenging academic and rewarding everyday cultural experience. Classes are small, creative, and based on student participation. What students learn in the classroom is relevant to their everyday cultural experiences. As members of SSE's very active student association, Program students have opportunities to meet and interact with Swedish students through numerous clubs and activities organized on campus. The Program arranges study visits and cultural expeditions throughout the semester, while also providing two one-week vacations during which students can travel on their own. Students live with a host family or in private apartments. Those who elect to live in private apartments also have the opportunity to have a Swedish 'contact family'.

  • The Swedish Program's Mission Statement

The Swedish Program poses a compelling intellectual and cultural challenge: to develop an understanding of how Sweden addresses political, economic, social, and artistic issues relevant to all advanced societies. This challenge reflects Sweden's impressive history of innovative responses to issues such as financial downturns, environmental protection, immigration, health-care, education, and gender equality. These topics are likewise studied in an interdisciplinary and critical tradition. Our objective is to promote a comprehensive view highlighting the country's achievements as well as its contemporary problems. Students and scholars come from all over the worlds to study Sweden. The country's appeal extends beyond its social and political institutions to its rich traditions in the arts, humanities, and science. Our mission is to teach the values of global citizenship effectively preparing students to address the political, economic, social, technological, and artistic issues of the 21st century. Discovering different ways of thinking and living constitutes and educational and cultural adventure.
