  • Description

The dream of opening The Purple House was born in 1989, when the owner, Andrea travelled for 1 1/2 years as a backpacker. After traveling to over 20 countries, she spent quite a bit of time working in Tel Aviv, Israel, at a hostel called "The Purple House." While the Persian Gulf war was underway, the hostel closed down and Andrea returned home to New York City. She settled down and got a "real job" as a Corporate Special Events Planner for a large investment banking firm. About 6 years later, Andrea was bit by the travel bug again, and decided to leave her job to join the Peace Corps, where she served in Panama for 3 years as a small business volunteer.

While living in Panama, she really fell in love with the country and began to plan for a long term future there. On March 1, 2002, the dream of opening her own hostel came true when The Purple House (David City, Panama) opened its doors to discerning backpackers from all over the globe.

Our staff is available to help you with almost anything you need and to insure a safe homey atmosphere. We so enjoy it when new people visit us at the hostel, and share their lives and travel stories with us.

We want to make you feel at home at in our home and we do our best to make you feel comfortable. We warmly welcome you (and when we say warmly, we mean it...David is one of the hottest cities in the country!) to David City, Panama.

    BUS INFORMATION:

From the Paso Canoas border of Costa Rica or Cerro Punta or Volcan, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE BUS ALL THE WAY TO THE BUS TERMINAL. You can ask your bus driver to let you off about 3 blocks from The Purple House (La Casa Morada), and that way, you save taxi money! This is what to do: Ask the bus driver to let you off in front of the bus stop "Universidad Tecnologica". You will be in front of a gas station "Delta". Pivot your body around and look for the street between the car repair garage and the Don Lee Chinese Restaurant. Walk on that street (Avenida Sexta Oeste) for 3 blocks toward the Chamber of Commerce. We're the purple house on the corner!

From the David City Bus Terminal:
Take any bus (30 cents) that passes in front of McDonalds (there is only one here). When you pass McDonalds tell the bus driver to stop at the Supermercado 99. Get off here, and continue walking straight ahead of you 1 block to the Delta Gas Station and the Don Lee Chinese Restaurant. At the restaurant, make a right and walk 3 blocks toward the Chamber of Commerce We're the purple house on the corner.
