The school in this language holiday program is located in a beautiful 19th century building only a short walk from the main train station, Santa Maria Novella. The school has 17 classrooms, free wireless internet, and a lovely enclosed garden patio.
This Italian language holiday program offers the perfect mix of small but challenging Italian language classes, excursions to several places of interest around Tuscany, visits to historical and artistic centers, special lectures on cultural subjects, and cooking lessons (la cucina Italiana!) There are also excursions to several famous Italian sites, such as Siena and San Gimignano, Pisa or Lucca, and Cinque Terre.
Course:
This 50 Plus Immersion Italian language holiday course provides 15 lessons per week divided into three lessons per day with each lesson 50 minutes in length. Students will have a level placement test on the first day and will then be placed in the appropriate level, either elementary, intermediate, or advanced. The course focuses on a communicative approach, but also covers all areas of language comprehension - vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading, and writing.
Teachers:
Teachers in this Italian language holiday program are selected based on proper qualification to teach Italian, their enthusiasm, and previous teaching success. The school is authorized by the Ministry of Education to teach the Italian language and Italian culture to international students.
Accommodation:
The Florence 50 Plus language immersion program offers homestay family or apartment accommodation. The school can also help arrange a hotel.
* Homestay: The homestay experience is ideal for participants who want to experience Italian daily life and to practice their Italian language skills in an informal atmosphere. You will stay in single or double rooms with local host families. The accommodation officer rigorously selects each family and spends a great deal of time matching the student to the right family, which is why we appreciate as much information as possible from students regarding personality, likes and dislikes, etc. Host families are of all ages and social backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common: their hospitality and friendliness!
* Apartment: This option is suitable for those who want the privacy and independence of their own furnished apartment. The school provides studios or small apartments for one or two people. Apartments are equipped with cooking facilities and a bathroom. Bedroom and bathroom are also provided with sheets and towels.
Florence, the capital of Tuscany, is located in the northwestern region of Italy, two hours by train from Rome. With a population of less than half a million, Florence is a walk-able city with all of the major landmarks- from the Uffizi Gallery to the Ponte Vecchio- only 20-40 minutes apart on foot. A map is advisable, however, to avoid walking in circles.
Florence simply cannot be rushed. The lovely old city was made for leisurely strolls along the Arno River, over one of the many bridges (including the Ponte Vecchio) or along the countless narrow streets surrounding the Uffizi, the Duomo, or any of the many piazzas. Florence is flourishing with famous and important museums and galleries, from the Galleria dell'Accademia- which includes Michelangelo's David- to the Science Museum, containing some of Galileo's original scientific instruments, to the Uffizi Gallery, undoubtedly the finest art gallery in the world.
Be sure to visit these and all of Florence's other notable sites, remembering to practice your Italian in the shops and cafés!
