    The LLM in International and European law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel has been an internationally renowned programme for over 40 years. Created in 1971 as the Programme on International and Legal Cooperation ('PILC'), it is one of the most established LLM of its kind.

    The LLM is an Advanced Master's degree of 60 ECTS organised by the Institute for European Studies, in cooperation with the VUB Faculty of Law. The selective student body (a maximum of 40 students each year) guarantees high quality interactive teaching.

    Programme Setup
    The LLM offers a unique mixture of European and international public and business law in the following fields:

    - Institutional law and judicial protection
    - Economic and competition law
    - External relations
    - Sustainable development and the environment
    - Human Rights
    - Criminal law
    - Taxation
    - Comparative law

    The teaching staff is composed of both academics and professionals, including practising lawyers and European Union officials. Because of the highly international character of the student body, there are many opportunities to improve your intercultural and communication skills.

    Career opportunities
    "Our students are offered personalised coaching and career advice, CV drafting and interview preparation, as well as a centralised job and CV database. Clients of the VUB Career Centre range from major law firms, the European Commission, European Parliament, European Agencies and consultancies.

    "The LLM programme can lead to a career in a wide range of organisations. We have over 1200 alumni who are now working in: international institutions such as the European Union, the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, in national administrations, diplomatic services, the judiciary, as well as major law firms, corporations and NGOs.

    The Institute for European Studies (IES), a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in Brussels, offers an outstanding research-focused environment in the heart of Europe. The lES boasts excellent teaching facilities and a modern working space, right next to the amenities of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) Etterbeek campus. Created in 2001 through an initiative taken by the Flemish government, the IES teaches advanced Master programmes, and focuses on interdisciplinary research in European Studies, more specifically on the role of the EU in an international setting. Within this scope, the IES provides academic services to scholars, policy makers and the general public. The IES provides also an ideal forum for conferences and workshops on European issues.
