  • Description

Help replant a coral reef near Sipadan, Sabah, Malaysia. We will teach you to dive so you can plant corals, rebuild a reef and work on turtle and shark conservation. TRACC-Borneo and The Green Connection have joined together with the Celebes beach resort to offer this great volunteer programme.

The TRACC project camps on the beach of Pom Pom island in the Celebes sea. The volunteers learn to dive with PADI and then scubadive 3 or 4 times each day on an amazing coral reef. The island is in the coral triangle and has the highest number number of reef fish & coral species in the world. Turtles are very common and the volunteers patrol the beaches to protect the adult turtles, eggs and hatchlings.

The water around the island is clear and warm and has amazing schools of fish from the giant whale shark which is seen occasionally in the summer to Manta rays, marlin and sharks.

  • Highlights

Learn to dive on a beautiful white sand desert island with the coral reef less than 100 feet from the beach.

The water is clear, warm and a beautiful blue colour. Experience true weightlessness as you hang over the reef far below and the fish schools circle. Work on Turtle conservation and help protect the endangered green and hawksbill turtles.

Watch turtles nesting and hatchlings hatching. Plant coral to help rebuild the reef after years of blast fishing. Build Fish aggregation devices next to the reef to attract fish as food for the sharks. Dive the walls around the island and survey for Manta's. eagle rays and sharks. Help protect the reef for sharks and other large fish.

  • Typical Volunteer

Volunteers typically have a passion for endangered species, diving and conservation. We have had excellent volunteers who don't dive but take photos, video and write articles and blogs. Families have had a great holiday that actually achieves something. Lots of days are on the beach or dive boat, snorkeling or diving underwater and a love of the outdoors is essential!
