The international tourism and hospitality industries are evolving at a rapid pace. Worldwide tourism remains the globes' largest private employer, but industry consolidations and realignments are reshaping the faces of leading industry organizations.
Only the professional managers who are committed to lifelong learning will remain at the forefront of this dynamic, fast-paced industry. That's what makes The George Washington Universitys' Accelerated Master of Tourism Administration (AMTA) Program so exciting! GWs AMTA graduate degree is recognized as the advanced credential for tourism professionals.
For more than 30 years, the GW Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) program has led the tourism industry with original graduate degree programs. You will find our graduates at the top of their professions. The Accelerated Master of Tourism Administration (AMTA) program offers the same world-class graduate education as the MTA, but is packaged to meet the needs of working professionals.
Students may develop an individualized studies program in an area such as international hotel and resort management, airline management, heritage tourism management, or ecotourism or may choose one of the three formal concentration areas below.
* The Event and Meeting Management
* The Destination Management
* The Sport Management
Program Format:
Online, Distance Learning Delivery
When you enroll in the AMTA program you will be in a cohort, or group, of students who will take courses together on-line while working with professors via the Internet. Everything is electronic, including submitting assignments, classroom discussions, lectures, reading assignments, examinations, and working on projects with teammates. The traditional fixed schedule for classes is replaced by your ability to participate in weekly activities for each course on your own schedule. An electronic grade book keeps you up to date daily on your progress in the course.
No Matter Where You Live - You Can Complete This Program!
The AMTA program is designed for the working professional and does not require traditional campus-based participation. During the program, students should complete three courses per semester. Other courses, completed over the duration of the program, provide unique opportunities to design individualized study and career objectives. This accelerated delivery system is designed to provide a growing segment of the tourism profession with the opportunity to earn a graduate degree while continuing to work full-time in the industry.
Two Four-day Residency Periods
Two four-day residency periods - one at the beginning and one at the end of your degree program - are offered in order to better meet the changing education and career development needs of tourism professionals. These residencies, held on-campus at the School of Business, will provide classroom hours, orientation on how to work on-line, access on-line libraries, and be successful in virtual coursework. During this residency period you will have the opportunity to personally meet your professors as well as the other students in your cohort.
The Master of Tourism Administration degree program is designed to prepare students for career entry or mid-level management positions in public, commercial, or nonprofit organizations providing visitor services at the local, national, or international level.
* Flexible and convenient online learning format
* Individualized guidance based upon personal and career goals
* Networking opportunities with industry professionals
* Concentrations in Event & Meeting Management, Destination Management and an Individualized Studies Option.
* US News and World Report rated the GW MTA - one of the Best Online Graduate Programs in Business in 2001 and 2002 - the only Tourism program ranked on that list
