The Camperdown/Darlington campus stands on a 180-acre site, 2 miles southwest of the city center. Its magnificent 1857 neogothic sandstone quadrangle reflects the University's academic and cultural heritage and is regarded as a national treasure. Research and technological facilities are first-class and include a prize-winning library, the largest of its kind in Australia. It has a collection of more than 5 million volumes of books and periodicals covering the full range of subjects in which the University conducts teaching and research. This main library is supplemented by 23 specialist branch and department libraries as well as the libraries of its academic colleges.
