My advice to future Spanish Studies Abroad students would be to take every opportunity you can: to learn, to try something new, to explore, to meet knew people, etc. You really have to put yourself out there to accomplish some of these things. Remember that everyone is in the same boat with being out of their comfort zone. Part of it all is taking chances. In class, in the streets, with your host family, you should speak confidently even if you don't always feel that way. It's the only way to learn and improve your Spanish. One piece of advice that someone gave me was to meet and befriend locals and to not hang out with only Americans. Do this. It will give you opportunities to learn so much more about Spanish culture and will give you the chance to make lifelong international friends! Meet and befriend locals
Seville is a beautiful, safe, and culturally-rich city whose people are restful and community-oriented. CC-CS does a superb job at showing students important parts of the city and important cities near Seville that I otherwise would not have seen.
CC-CS is really great about offering side trips to museums or other 'cultural' spots. These are led by professors from the Center who have specific knowledge about that area. It's always helpful to have someone tell you what's going on and it was a great way to see other parts of the city.
The program directors were extremely accommodating, we had their personal cell phone numbers to use at any hour in case of emergency. They helped us with planning for independent travel and also provided news about various cultural events happening in Cordoba.
Both the main administrators with CCCS in Cordoba were fantastic. I can not say enough about how helpful they were and generally just great people.
As soon as I walked in the front door for the first time I was loved and treated like a member of the family. I cannot say enough great things about my host mother. I was completely cared for and never lacked anything. The house was about a 45 minute walk to school, but it was worth it to live with the family that I did. The transportation in Seville is also very easy to navigate and sped up the journey significantly. I recommend SEVici for a cheap way to travel around the city.
The teachers at the CC-CS Center are FANTASTIC! They make class a lot more fun because they care about it and about you.
It was hands down the best experience of my life. I loved my classes and the professors and I absolutely loved the Universidad de Alicante and its campus.
I went to Spain afraid to speak the language and returned being able to understand native speakers and comfortably respond using the language skills I have acquired over the years.
'I wanted to thank CC-CS for offering me an opportunity of a lifetime! The structure of the program is perfect, it offers students enough time in the classroom to learn new things about the country, its culture and language. The class trips, which were interesting and fun, while still providing the students enough free time to explore.
Take advantage of all of the activities CC-CS offers on a weekly basis! They were all very interesting and definitely enriched the cultural experience.
The Center was a wonderful facility and its location in the center of the city was ideal.
I absolutely loved my homestay. My host mom was amazing and so welcoming, and it wouldn't have been the same experience without her. -Lisa Peterson, Muhlenberg College, Seville Semi-Integrated Studies, Fall 2010
