Location
Spain: Seville (Sevilla)

Term
Fall, Spring, Academic Year

  • Description

The Semi-Integrated Spanish Studies program offers students the best combination of cultural preparation, specially designed courses, and guided direct enrollment at local universities. Designed for the advanced student that has completed one semester of advanced college Spanish, students combine study at the Spanish Studies Abroad Center with courses at Universidad de Sevilla or Universidad Pablo de Olavide.

At the Center you immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture through courses specially designed for non-Spanish students, while fulfilling the requirements needed for Spanish, international studies, business, education and other majors. In addition to living in a Spanish home, you are given the opportunity to participate in a full array of study tours, cultural events, and social activities. At the Center, you also benefit from the expertise of Spanish Studies staff, who guide you to more fully immerse yourself in the sevillano community through volunteer work, local clubs, internships, etc. All courses are taught by native professors at the Center in downtown Seville.

In addition to your regular classes at the Center, you also take one or two courses at one of Seville's well-known universities - Universidad de Sevilla or Universidad Pablo de Olavide. Students choose courses from the universities' many disciplines, including humanities, science and technology, social science and justice, health science, and education. Since you are enrolled in a course at the university, you enjoy the benefits of the resources and clubs offered at the university, with many opportunities to interact with local Spanish students

  • Highlights

Your academic experience takes place in a historic Spanish mansion in the heart of downtown Seville. A beautiful and ancient city on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville has a rich cultural life and is known for its winding Moorish streets, Renaissance gardens, flower-strewn patios, grand architecture, flamenco dancing, and music.

The Center has been a social and cultural gathering place for both Americans and sevillanos since 1969. Each year, more than two hundred Spaniards study English at the Center and participate in intercambios (language-exchanges) with American students. The Center also actively promotes regular interaction of Spanish and American students by organizing social events and cultural activities such as outings to the theater, festivals and carnivals, art exhibits, concerts of classical and contemporary music, video presentations, and joint fiestas.

  • Spanish Studies Abroad's Mission Statement

The mission of Spanish Studies Abroad is to promote our students' in-depth understanding of Spanish-speaking countries, through specifically designed academically rigorous university-level programs. We consider all of our students to be willing to cross cultural boundaries, to live as members of another culture, and to thus learn about others as they learn about themselves. In accordance with our mission to encourage our students to cross cultural boundaries, Spanish Studies promotes equal opportunities within our programs and does not discriminate on the basis of an individual's race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, age, physical ability, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. We believe in educating students on cultural tolerance and sensitivity, acceptance of differences, inclusiveness, and how diversity is viewed in other cultures.
