Intensive 4-week (English Teacher Training) TEFL Certificate courses (120 hours) offered monthly. 12-week Saturday programs also offered. Our teacher-trainer program is based on giving TEFL students extensive opportunities to practice what they learn, to lead their own classes of ESL students with guidance and feedback from experienced ESL teachers. Special TEFL Certificate Program for Non-Native Speakers of English also offered: course includes additional training on pronunciation, American culture and other relevant topics.
The TEFL Certificate Program presents trainees with an opportunity to learn interactively through skill-building activities. Our highly-skilled and dedicated teacher trainers will work with you to identify your strengths and overcome your challenges as a teacher.
The small class size 12 students maximum coupled with the Institute's nearly 30-year commitment to client service allows for the unique level of personal attention that's a hallmark of our programs. At The Boston Language Institute, you will learn to create your own teaching materials as you present practice teaching sessions to actual ESL students. In addition, while learning how to teach the five unique skills of language acquisition, you will develop an effective classroom management style, review English grammar, explore Business English, investigate cross-cultural issues and hone job finding strategies, whether in TESL or TEFL.
Our internationally acclaimed TEFL Certificate Program is available as a 4-week intensive course or a 12-week, Saturday part-time course. In both our full-time and part-time programs, we make available special units for non-native students. About 1200 people have completed our program and our graduates are teaching all over the world, forming a network of alumni at the service of more recent graduates.
We do not require participants in our program to have a college degree. Having one may be helpful, however, in securing a job. Some schools require candidates to have a degree, and some countries, such as Japan, will not issue a work visa to individuals who are not college graduates. Still, there are many opportunities for teachers with TEFL certificates but no college degree, both in the U.S. and overseas.
A good ESL/EFL teacher does need a solid general knowledge of a wide variety of topics, but this knowledge may be acquired through life experience and self-study, not just through a college education. Our most important considerations in granting a TEFL Certificate are your efforts and your accomplishments in meeting the requirements of our program.
Our program attracts people with varied backgrounds, including college students and recent graduates, career changers, and retired people. Some want to begin a long career, while others want to live overseas for a period of time, or to volunteer at a community organization. Some have never taught before, while others have some teaching experience but want to qualify for a new area of teaching. For all of these people, a TEFL Certificate program provides the fundamental skills necessary for good language teaching.
