  • Description

    We are looking for a qualified, creative and caring English teacher for adults in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. This is a full-time job position, 35-40 hours/week, that will begin in February of 2012. Applicants must be a team-player, willing to commit to at least one year (February-November) and speak proficient Spanish in order to communicate with family members of students. As we are still in the process of developing our adult program, applicant will be expected to create adult curriculum, and establish and maintain relationships with businesses in the community to assist in creating job opportunities for our adult students.

  • Highlights

    This position, while demanding, will allow someone to shape our evolving Adult ESL program in the San Juan del Sur community. Applicant will have the opportunity to create curriculum, expand on our existing program, and form community partnerships for student job placements. As our adult program is newly forming, this position requires a high level of independence and enthusiasm, and will also allow for creativity and innovation.

  • Qualifications

    Qualified applicants will have prior experience teaching English as a second language, a degree or certificate in education (or comparable experience), fluency in Spanish and English - or high level of proficiency, patience, flexibility and compassion - Nicaragua can be a difficult place to live.

    The Barrio Planta Project is a community development, education and arts initiative that provides the children and adults from the low-income neighborhood, "La Planta" in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua with free English classes. Through these classes, along with extra-curricular activities and community development projects, they are able to discover their skills, passions, confidence and pride for an overall more fulfilling, successful and rewarding life.
