  • Description

The Arts University College at Bournemouth has been offering specialist education since 1885 and is one of the most successful and popular higher education arts specialists in the UK, with an excellent national and international reputation, committed to providing the highest quality, industry-relevant creative degrees. Many of the specialist courses are considered to be among the best in the country and the University College has been selected as a Skillset Screen and Media Academy Centre of Excellence in conjunction with Bournemouth Media School. (It is one of only two Screen and Media Academies in England).

Former students include Simon Beaufoy, who received an Oscar for the screenplay of the film Slumdog Millionaire. We remain passionate about our subjects and continue to encourage risk-taking and pushing subject boundaries and you will get the chance to work alongside some of the best students in the world; learning from each other whilst appreciating the importance of each discipline and how it relates to the creative industries.

Students from different courses often collaborate with each other, creating an atmosphere and working environment closely matched to the professional creative industries. For example Acting students are selected to act in films produced by Film students and may be supported by the Costume course for costumes. Animation students often work with Modelmaking students to produce three dimensional animated films. Photography students are also involved in photographing fashion shows and fashion collections. With around 3000 students on full-time courses there is a personal and friendly approach to all activities. All courses have relatively small year groups, ensuring that all students get the attention and support that they expect and need from experienced and professionally qualified tutors. Currently the University College has more than 450 international and mainland European students from about 60 countries.

What is Short Courses Study Abroad?

Short Courses Study Abroad is for students who want to spend time learning in the UK, but do not necessarily want to spend as much as 2 - 3 years studying. Our short study abroad courses let you work fully integrated alongside degree or diploma students for one, two or three terms in an exciting, world famous creative University College.

Staff and technicians all enjoy a wealth of practical experience in their subject area. Many remain actively engaged in their own practice and use this to inform their teaching. Industry liaison groups, guest lecturers and visiting tutors from the creative industries also help ensure that our staff and students remain informed of current working practices, and new developments within these areas.

How does Short Courses Study Abroad work?

When you apply, our Course Leaders will work with you and your tutors to decide on the best year to join your chosen programme, usually either in year one or year two. Students who join our courses are fully integrated with degree and/or diploma students and benefit from the full range of resources available.

You can join existing degree or diploma students on the following courses: Art & Design, Acting, Fashion Studies, Fashion Design & Technology, Modelmaking, Textiles, Photography, Commercial Photography, Film Production, Architecture, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Animation Production, Digital Media Production, Illustration, Interior Architecture & Design, Costume with Performance Design and Make-Up for Media and Performance.

If you can't find the exact course you want we can design a course tailored to your individual needs. You can join several groups of students on a range of different courses and in addition receive one-to-one tuition.
