A more advanced course for students with some experience of garment construction. This is an ideal course for students who have an interest in female couture clothing and want the opportunity to understand and learn some very specialist cutting and making skills as well as working methods.
The late 1940's saw the re-birth of fashion after the period of austerity caused by the Second World War. The "New Look" was controversial because it directly confronted this austerity and was seen by many as an affront to the economic sacrifices being met by most Europeans as nations attempted to rebuild. This course offers an introduction to the complexities of cut, construction and the fit of garments from this dynamic period of female couture fashion. You will take one garment and construct this to the fitting stage looking at cut, construction and the exploration of couture tailoring methods. You will look at some of the stunning garments from the leading designers of the time such us Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Schiaparelli and Hubert de Givenchy.
