  • Description

TEFL International in Indonesia trains teachers. We'll give you the basic tools that can be used in most teaching environments.

    Training Schedule:

The first class will take place Monday morning at 9:30 a.m., at which time we will provide a complete course schedule. Sessions generally run between 9:00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. with regular breaks.

There will be a welcome meal provided by the school on the first day of the course.

Trainees are expected to attend all input and other sessions included on the schedule unless they are sick and require medical treatment. This is particularly important for Teaching Practice (TP) as it is very difficult to arrange alternate TP times.

TEFL International's TESOL certificate is a four week, 120 hours intensive course, teaching students how to teach English as a second language. TEFL International has been in operation for 8 years and has schools operating around the world.

    I. Foreign Language Experience

The trainees receive training in an unknown foreign language to reflect on the experience of being a learner, and how this might direct their own teaching.

    II. Language Awareness.

Grammar. Inputs cover word classes, simple sentence elements, complex sentences and clauses, verb time and tense, aspect and conditionals and modals, phrasal and voice.
Phonology. Inputs cover phonemic, word stress and intonation, sentence stress and intonation, rhythm and intonation, and connected speech.

    III. Student Profile

Trainees work with individual students on rapport-building, error analysis and correction and addressing individual student needs. Three meetings with the student are required including transcription and error analysis of audio and written samples, culminating in a 60-minute session observed by a trainer.

    IV. Teaching Techniques.

    Teaching technique inputs normally cover:

    - approaches to language learning
    - textbook review and evaluation
    - warmers and modeling
    - classroom management
    - controlled practice
    - listening activities
    - interactive blackboards
    - pronunciation activities
    - lesson planning models with peer teaching
    - songs and chants
    - appropriate language and comprehensible input reading activities
    - language in context with peer teaching
    - writing activities

    - 2 hours of shared teaching practice
    - Minimum of 8 hours of individual teaching practice

    VI. Materials Project.

All trainees must develop two sets of materials used during the teaching practice. Each set must be durable, capable of being used for more than one lesson context and easily portable. The materials may include visuals, realia, audio or video-tape, cue cards and class handouts, but may not be photocopied from published sources. Trainees are required to adapt from commercial sources, or develop original materials.
