Since 2006, Teaching House's team of trainers has grown from one full-time trainer and one freelance trainer to 10 full-time trainers - including 4 CELTA assessors - and a dedicated group of regular freelance trainers from around the world.
This is one of the largest and strongest groups of CELTA trainers assembled, and they work hard to develop the CELTA brand. Teaching House runs around 30 courses a year.
Teaching House has developed a very strong CELTA course and produced virtually every conceivable document, assignment, input session handout and teaching practice point that we could think of.
However, the program can be adapted to your everyday life. Indeed, TH Vancouver offers two different schedules for the CELTA course. Each course follows exactly the same syllabus and leads to exactly the same certification from the University of Cambridge. The choice of which one to attend depends on each candidate's own needs and availability. We hope that at least one of these options work for you.
* Intensive Course (4 weeks)
The 4-week course is very intensive and requires full-time commitment. In addition to class time, you can expect to spend a part of most evenings and at least one day over the weekend working independently on lesson planning and course assignments. Cambridge ESOL recommends dedicating a minimum of 20-25 hours a week outside of the course to this work. 100% attendance is required. Employment during the course and very long commutes are strongly discouraged. A clear schedule for four weeks is the best approach to take.
* Extensive Part-Time Course (10 weeks)
The Part-Time Course is equal in nature to the Full-Time Course but is spread out over a longer period of time. It is designed for people who have other full-time commitments (work, study, etc.). Candidates need to commit to attending the course for the complete period and doing course work at weekends and/or on alternative days of the week when they are not studying on the course.
* Recognized diploma: administered by the prestigious University of Cambridge, the CELTA course is considered by many to be the benchmark English language teaching certification and the only qualification that many language schools accept!
* Teaching practice: each trainee teacher will teach different students from all over the world. Classes vary in size but usually have 12-14 students in them who are all adult learners, and vary in age from 18 to 60. You'll teach classes at two or three different levels, including a lower level and a higher level.
* Job-finding assistance: after the courses, Teaching House helps each trainee to find a suitable ESL job in the country of their choosing.
* Vancouver: Situated in the center of Vancouver with a spectacular view of the downtown skyline, Teaching House Vancouver is the ideal place to earn the CELTA while exploring all of the city's sights. Granville Island, a major attraction with a sprawling market and serene marina, is a short walk away from our West Broadway campus.
* Very clear prices: no additional fees or taxes added, no surprise!
Applicants should have either a GED or a high-school diploma.
The total cost of both the CELTA training course is USD 2,495. There are no additional fees or taxes added.

* Assistance with housing and arrival
In order for you to teach, however, you need students. To fill this need, we recruit students from around New York City, Boston, Miami, Vancouver, and San Diego whose native language is not English; and we offer them free ESL classes. The students you'll be teaching are people who have immigrated here, who are currently living and working here, or who are simply visiting, traveling, and want to get some formal language instruction while they're here. In this way, hours of teaching aren’t paid.
