Singapore: Singapore City
An established and expanding school group requires school leaders and teachers for their growing Early Years centres in this exciting region of the world. These schools serve children aged 3 to 8, and use both UK as well as International Baccalaureate PYP curricula.
Singapore has traded in its rough-and-ready opium dens and pearl smugglers for towers of concrete and glass, and its steamy rickshaw image for hi-tech wizardry, but you can still recapture the colonial era with a gin sling under the languorous ceiling fans at Raffles Hotel. At first glance, Singapore appears shockingly modern and anonymous, but this is an undeniably Asian city with Chinese, Malay and Indian traditions from feng shui to ancestor worship creating part of the everyday landscape. It is these contrasts that bring the city to life.
The Republic of Singapore consists of the Island of Singapore and around sixty smaller islands of which just over twenty are inhabited. Singapore is located just off the southern tip of the Malaysian Peninsular to which it is linked by a causeway. Singapore City is the country's capital. Singapore has a well-developed transportation system with a low-cost metro connecting most points of the city.
The main island is about twenty-six miles wide and stretches around fourteen miles from north to south. Almost half its area is built-up. Singapore's climate is tropical and very humid. The winter monsoon period brings the greatest amount of rain. The island has no natural resources except for its location on the trade routes between East and West and the geography which has given it one of the world's finest deep harbours. Singapore has become an international banking and trade centre and is often seen as the gateway to the Far East.
Candidates must have a teaching degree for this age range such as a Bachelors of Education, Bachelors of Early Childhood Education, a degree + PGCE/PGDE or similar. Preference is given to teachers who have qualifications for the Early Years (ages 2-8).
Free tuition is available for the children of teachers; however, because the schools only serve children up to the age of 8, these posts are not suitable for teachers who have children over the age of 6 at the time the contract starts. Teachers with a trailing spouse are encouraged to research job possibilities for their spouses before applying.
* Salary of USD 3000-4500/month for teachers, USD 4500-5500/month for Directors (depending on qualifications, experience and location). All countries are taxed but tax rates are very low, around 10-12% * 2 year contracts * Flights at beginning and end of contract * 2 months salary as bonus upon successful completion of contract * Medical coverage * Housing or allowance.
