Walk ancient Spanish roads, explore Palladian architecture, cruise Dutch canals, and study the work of Brunelleschi and Michelangelo in the cities that they called home. This unique nine-week program combines design studios and field studies survey that focus on contemporary European architectural and urban issues. Coursework is comprised of two principal components. First, field visits to important buildings and urban settings in Florence, Madrid and Amsterdam and other European cities that include on-site lectures and student produced analytical activities. Second, a set of intensive building design projects in European urban settings that are informed by the analytical fieldwork.
Designed for advanced architecture students in professional B.Arch or M.Arch degree programs, students enroll in a 6-credit design studio and a 3-credit survey field studies course. The program begins in Florence at Syracuse University's fully-equipped Donatello Studios and is the base for studio work and lectures. Extended trips to Madrid and Amsterdam are supplemented with field trips to other important sites in Spain, the Netherlands and Italy. In addition to studio and field work, the Three Cities program features guest lectures and jurist by noted architects and critics. Non-SU students will be required to submit a portfolio of their work to date. Please contact SU Abroad if you any questions regarding this requirement.
