Dates
May 31 - July 6, 2012
The course begins with translation and communication between seemingly disparate disciplines, locations, and concepts, and seeks to explore commonalities using spaces of healthcare delivery as the framework. Building on previous research, you will work in interdisciplinary groups to identify issues, sites, strategies, methodologies and tools to produce design guidelines for care and prevention of malaria in Ghana. The course will culminate with the presentation of this work to the Ministry of Health.
The course spans 4 cities: Kumasi, Navrongo, Tamale and Accra. Students will collaborate with their Ghanaian peers at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. Research will include visits to hospitals and clinics, medical research facilities, rural and urban locales and built and natural environments. Once research focuses are identified, you will work with in-country programs and experts to study their methodologies. You will seek out, evaluate and apply Ghanaian influences and create design guidelines that respond to current requirements and potential future changes.
