Prague, the capital of the Czech republic, is a city of over 1.5 million inhabitants, and the cultural and intellectual center of the country. Situated on the river Vltava, it has enjoyed fame as an awe-inspiring and beautiful city. Prague has grown up over many centuries from a small Slavonic settlement into a magnificent city. The city's Romanesque, gothic renaissance, baroque, and neoclassical buildings have remained undisturbed by modern constructions, creating a fine mix of classic and modern Europe.
Charles University, the oldest in Central Europe, was founded in 1348 by emperor Charles IV. The campus occupies extraordinary buildings in the old town, the heart of this wondrous city. The student population is a diverse and active one, taking classes in one of the thirteen different faculties. Here you will encounter people from all over Europe, as well as the world. There are approximately 30,000 students and roughly 3,000 teachers.
